Beinhorn Creative Consulting Services

Up until about fifteen years ago, if you were having a record produced, you could look forward to:

    • a  having your songs and arrangements heavily scrutinized,
    • b  spending weeks- even months in pre-production, and then,
  • c  rehearsing all your music until it was ready to be recorded.

Keep in mind, all of this would take place well before anyone considered recording a note of music.

That brings us to the present day- when budgets have shrunk to almost nothing and anything other than physical recording is considered time consuming and unnecessary. Making a recording has become a process that centers around getting the job done as quickly as possible with virtually no attention to making the result of that job as good as it can be.

However, it’s becoming obvious that without things like pre-production, the overall quality of recent recordings has consistently diminished. Beinhorn Creative offers a full palette of production services for artists according to their needs and accessible from any place in the world.

Pre-production

Pre-Production is like the framework for a house. Without a solid foundation, even a beautiful house will be flimsy. Pre-Production ensures that songs and arrangements have structural integrity. This process includes:

  • Song Analysis
  • Song Repair
  • Project Overview

Song Analysis

As creators, performer/songwriters often have a hard time being objective about their own material. This is why these artists find that outside perspective and guidance from a trusted source is very helpful. Song Analysis includes:

  • Song assessment
  • Song repair

Project Overview

The Project Overview is the process of evaluating a recording project both as a group of individual songs and as a complete body of work. It includes:

  • Song assessment
  • Assembling of songs for recording project (or demo)
  • Assessing and itemizing steps to make project ready for recording

Live Rehearsal

Working one-on-one in a rehearsal space is one the best ways to improve songs. This includes:

  • Working on song performances
  • General pre-production
  • Working on song structures, arrangements and orchestrations
  • Critiquing and coaching individual performers
  • Coaching performers to play with feel

Post-production/Pre-mix

Sometimes, when a recording is almost finished, it still feels as if something is missing. Post-Production analysis is available to help take recordings to completion. This process includes:

  • One on one work with artists
  • Song analysis
  • Song repair
  • (Please note- this service is consultation only and does not include any hands on engineering or programming)

Executive Production

Recording projects often need additional oversight, even if a producer is already on board. Executive production includes:

  • One-on-one work with artists
  • One on one work with project producer/recording engineer/mix engineer
  • Song analysis
  • Song repair
  • Project analysis

Remote Record Production

Thanks to new technologies (and the internet), this radical, new approach to record production is now possible. All in real time, it includes many of the same aspects as standard Record Production:

  • One-on-one work with artists
  • One on one work with recording engineer/technicians
  • Supervision and coaching of artist performances
  • Supervision of recording and process of getting instrument sounds

Remote Rehearsal

If you have internet, a DAW, a few microphones and a rehearsal room, it is possible to rehearse remotely from any place in the world. Also in real time, this includes all aspects of live rehearsal, including:

  • General pre-production
  • Working on song performances
  • Working on song structures, arrangements and orchestrations
  • Critiquing and coaching individual performers
  • Coaching performers to play with feel

Record Production

Musical artists of the past relied on their producer as an objective, creative collaborator who would mentor them through the recording process while constantly challenging them to improve the quality of their work. The collaborative element lifts up the quality of an artist’s work and vastly improves it. This is not the common color-by-numbers, cut-and-paste method of record production, but much more- a customized approach that is based solely on the needs of each individual artist- and their music. Record production includes:

  • One on one work with artists
  • Pre-production
  • Live rehearsal
  • In studio recording to project completion
  • Supervision and coaching of artist performances
  • Supervision of recording and process of getting instrument sounds
  • Hands on participation in mix-down

Artist Incubation

About 30 years ago, artist development used to be one of the most important aspects of record-making. Until about fifteen years ago, every major record company had an artist development department which worked closely with their artists and assisted in their creative growth. Artist Incubation is an evolution of this concept, redesigned to address the needs of each individual artist. It includes:

  • One-on-one work with artists
  • Song analysis
  • Song repair
  • Project analysis
  • Pre-production
  • Record production
